Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (Fuendetodos, provincia de Zaragoza, 30 de marzo de 1746 – Burdeos, Francia, 16 de abril de 1828) fue un pintor. Su obra abarca la pintura de caballete y mural, el grabado y el dibujo. En todas estas facetas desarrolló un estilo que inaugura el Romanticismo. El arte goyesco supone, asimismo, el comienzo de la pintura contemporánea, y se considera precursor de las vanguardias pictóricas del siglo XX.
Gran popularidad tiene su Maja desnuda, en parte favorecida por la polémica generada en torno a la identidad de la bella retratada. De comienzos del siglo XIX datan también otros retratos que emprenden el camino hacia el nuevo arte burgués. Al final del conflicto hispano-francés pinta dos grandes cuadros a propósito de los sucesos del levantamiento del dos de mayo de 1808, que sientan un precedente tanto estético como temático para el cuadro de historia, que no solo comenta sucesos próximos a la realidad que vive el artista, sino que alcanza un mensaje universal.

Francisco of Goya and Bright (Fuendetodos, province of Saragossa, on March 30, 1746 - Bordeaux, France, April 16, 1828) was a painter. His work includes the painting of trestle and mural, the engraving and the drawing. In all these facets it developed a style that inaugurates the Romanticism. The characteristic of Goya's works art supposes, likewise, the beginning of the contemporary painting, and is considered to be predecessor of the pictorial forefronts of the 20th century.
Great popularity has his nake Beauty, partly favored by the polemic generated concerning the identity of the portrayed beautiful one. Of beginning of the 19th century they date also other portraits that start way towards the new bourgeois art. At the end of the conflict Hispanic - Frenchman paints two big pictures about the events of the raising of May, two, 1808, which they sit a both aesthetic and thematic precedent for the picture of history, that not only it comments on events near the reality through that the artist lives, but it reaches a universal message.
