Do you have the key?

A few years ago was fashionable, go to the bridges and put a padlock, and on one side put your name and your partner. There will be people that I will ask: "and that is made with the key?".
Supposedly with the key, it pulls the River, since it brings luck.

The martyrs.

The former Plaza of San Francisco, later of the Constitution, and at present Plaza of Spain, is the point of item of the itinerary, occupying the center of the same one one of the first commemorative monuments of important dimensions raised in Saragossa, the Monument to the Martyrs of the Religion and of the Mother land. Inaugurated in October, 1904 and, therefore, contemporary of the nearby one dedicated to the Justiceship, was uniting the Christian and patriotic feeling, refiriéndose to events of the past of the city. It is necessary to allude to the ornamental and commemorative precedents who occupied this central square. First and related intrinsically to the represented in this monument, levantabala Cross of the Main street, devastated during the War of the Independence, which he reminded to the called " innumerable martyrs " who, according to the tradition, gave the life in this place in defense of his faith at the beginning of the 4th century and whose remains they were venerated in Zaragoza since then together with those of Santa Engracia.Already in the 19th century there was constructed the Source called of the Princess or Source of Neptune, that to his useful function of supply of aguaa the population was adding that of the recollection and honoring to the infanta Isabel at the time. In spite of not occupying exactly the center of the square, it was dismantled for the construction of the Monument that we can contemplate still today.

It is curious how in this first decade of the 20th century did not trust local sculptors for the execution of these works of embellishment and collective memory of the city generally, but it is preferred to entrust them to national figures of recognised prestige. In this way, Agustín Querol and Mariano Benlliure, two of the most famous sculptors of the era, enjoyed with the blessing of the City Council to contribute to the adornment of the Aragonese capital. For this reason, work and promotion opportunities Aragonese sculptors were limited, until, as the century progressed, there were opportunities to future generations. Even today, after more than a hundred years, the monument to the martyrs of the Religion and the country persists as a milestone in the urban layout of Zaragoza, located at one end of the axis linking it with other Memorial opened on the same date, of the Justiciazgo.

Las vías de historia. The routes of history

It is a municipality of the Valley of the Aragon, region of the Jacetania, in the province of Huesca (Aragon). Canfranc might be the scene of a movie as Casablanca, though the history of this frontier step during the Second World war is still for writing.

The route of the gold Nazi to the Iberian Peninsula, the presence of the SS and the Gestapo, the door for the escape of many Jews and up to of the losing Germans, and worthy episodes of counterespionage of John Le Carré's novel. All that happened in Canfranc between 1942 and 1945.

The international customs was re-opened after being closed during the Spanish Civil war (1936-39) to avoid an invasion from France. Little later, in the year 1942 and 1943, there lived an activity that it never returned to recover up to his definitive closing in 1970. The supposed neutrality of Spain in the conflict provoked that in this epoch of convulsion in Europe there were managing to spend 1.200 tons of monthly goods in the route Germany-Suiza-España-Portugal (between them 86 of the gold Nazi stolen from the Jews). Germany controlled Canfranc's international customs during the Second World war (1939-45) with a group of officials of the SS and members of the Gestapo, who were residing in the hotel of the station and in other one of the people.

Spain was not in war, but Franco had a position of not belligerancy " sui generis". The help had to return that Hitler provided to him in the Civil war, which was translated in sending to Germany tons of volframio of the Galician mines, a fundamental mineral to armour his tanks and cannons. Many of these developments were opened by German companies that were producing in Spain across the company Sofindus (Financial Industrial Company), a German holding company very well connected with Demetrio Carceller, the director of the Spanish Institute of Foreign Currency (IEME), the only organism that could buy gold.Of this strategic help to prolong the contest.

Spain received at least 12 tons of gold and 4 of opium, while to Portugal there came 74 tons of gold, 4 of silver, 44 of armament, 10 of clocks and other chattels, product of I pillage the Jews. This information it can be only the top of the iceberg. The original ones of these papers, sent to the chief of traffic of goods of Madrid, do not exist. Portugal was the door of entry of goods of South America and, at the end of the Second World war, that of exit of many Germans who sheltered in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil or Paraguay. Because of it, it was receiving more gold. " There were cheeses of Argentina with a very thick skin to bear the trip or sugar that was coming to Lisbon ", Julio Ara remembers

In Irún or Port Bou the Nazi remained to another side of the border, in the busy France, but in Canfranc they resided in the Aragonese part, there was double jurisdiction

Gaudí was an architect with an innate sense of the geometry and the volume, as well as a great imaginative capacity that was allowing him to project mentally the majority of his works before them going on to planes. In fact, rarely it realized detailed planes of his works; it preferred recreating them on three-dimensional models, molding all the details as it them was designing mentally. In other occasions, it was improvising on the march, giving instructions to his collaborators on what they had to do.

He was studying even the most minimal detail of his creations, integrating in the architecture the whole series of handcrafted works that he itself was dominating to the perfection: ceramics, glassware, forge of iron, carpentry, etc. Likewise, it introduced new technologies in the treatment of the materials, as his famous "trencadís" done with pieces of ceramics of waste.

Gaudí's work has reached with the course of the time a wide international diffusion, being innumerable the studies dedicated to his way of understanding the architecture. Today it is admired both by professionals and by the public in general: the Sacred Family is nowadays one of the most visited monuments.

Between 1984 and 2005 seven of his works they have been considered to be A Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO.
